there has been lots of discussions about what we are proposing to do for our show/ exhibition etc, i thought that i would set up this new post as an easy way for us all to communicate and get are ideas across between elective classes on fridays.
I think that the artists we have decided to include are really exciting, especially that we have decided to include a designer (Stuart Haygarth), hopefully this will make are target audience a lot widier.
Last friday's session we were brain storming regarding sites where are exhibition could be held, i think that the way in which we have been thinking out side of the box is working well, but we do need to do some heavy research on the implications of having an exhibition in a public space and the safety measures which will need to be looked into as a result of this.
looking forward to seeing you all this week
please discuss...

Hello back to Brown Group, Who are the rest of your artists? What outdoor spaces are you looking at? Tell us all....
Rachael House
We are thinking of involving Alex Schady (a previous BA Painting tutor), Mark McGowan, Stuart Haygarth, Spartacus Chetwynd and Gillian Wearing.
Themes are based around play, suspension and the restriction/infiltration of a physical space.
As we aim for the exhibition to be quite light-hearted and humorous we were the group that thought of exhibiting in tree houses. We would either ask the artists to design this space or allowing them to produce work within a ready-made fixture.
Another consideration was the use of London's smallest alleyway, situated in Holborn, or public toilets/elevators.
Health and safety factors are very much an issue at the moment!
I hope everybody is still ok to meet on Wednesday
Did you notice that Spartacus Chetwynd has three night at GSK?

The women in your group may want to check out what she's doing.

Thank you for letting us know. I like the strict door policy! The women in our group will all have to go.
GSK sounds very interesting. It is exciting that there will be late night events and a café/restaurant will be temporarily installed.
To all you dear people in the poo group!
I've been considering, along with Claire at the last meeting (Wed 5th), the possibilities of a change regarding the choice of artists; remember that Rachael hinted that paps some of the current ones would be non-feasible due to their current standing within the industry. So, I've found a couple. They are:
>Tom Chudleigh > Canadian designer.
'The Hangout' measuring 2.9 meters and to be suspended from a tree. Very innovative in shape and technique regarding the suspension yet still organic and discreet when it comes to the colour which is of a natural timber. A very playful take on a tree house.
He is based in Vancouver but do not stress as I am sure it would be possible for him to get involved; there is always a way!
Apparently they are so hot they will be available to hire in the future but paps for our exhibit, it could be scaled down.
Therese Vandling > 2007 RA Grad.
Graphic designer who has contributed in Wallpaper mag. as well as numerous others. Very fun work; check out the photograph of the person practically covered by a giant red balloon/space hopper. With her cooperation surely this could be brought to life?
Naheed Raza > 2007 Slade Grad.
Raza has been focusing on 'twisting & foldings. He has recently collaboratated with UCL Lighthill Institute of Mathematics (LIMS). Titled 'Ravelling & Unravelling, the exhibition will involve a creative response to topological and geometric investigations, particularly within biomedical fields ie. packing & unpacking of materials used to treat disease of the human body.
Knot like structures echo that of DNA strands. He has studied knot theory (I had no idea there was such a thing) which touches on the twisting patterns of the tendrils of plants thus linking to the environment.
Have a look. I think they are much more unexpected and probably very possible.

hi guys
ok so following the mini sub group within the group meetin on friday we i suppose all agreed to use the blog this week to finalise our ideas...iron out an problems.
as we all know we have to present our idea to the group as a whole in a couple of weeks time.
so i think that the artists we are using are
Alex Schady
Mark Mcgowen
Stuart Haygarth
Spartucus Chetwynd
and Gillian Wearing
please correct me if i am wrong....so if this is true then we do need to have examples of all of their work for the presentations and reasoning for our choices...i have read the choices as have being made because they are quite playful, easier contactable than others and we feel their work would best interact with our site...again please correct me if i am wrong.
which nicely leads us to our concept/site location, it was mentioned on friday that our location is ruskin park where we intend to create some tree like structures (tree houses) which we are viewing as our gallery space, place where our artists can interact exhibit.
so are we planning on approaching the artists and asking them to design the ree houses or are we building them and letting the artists adapt, exhibit in them or interact with them...so jobs that need to be done as a result of this is contacting southwark council and enquiring about health and safety, location use, fees etc .
also with regards to materials we need to look into funding, sources wood is thats going to be our choosen material and sponsorship...etc
hopefully the budget can then be formed from this knowledge
also we were talking as a group about the press release:
it was noted that the press release had to consist of
date/time
address
Charge/cost
outlining of what shows about
theme
funder/sponsorship
visuals
transport routes
...who is our target audience
we also need to think about who we send the press release to, are we targeting the local area can we publish in listings?
also if we are going to have one centered performance event open night what about, drinks...this will then have an affect on the way group statemant and press release is written?
please discuss
