White Group

For our exhibition we have picked three artists that we like and think would complement each other. They are:

Eloise Fornieles does performance based installations, we are particularly interested in her work which involves audience participation such as her piece The Oyster Bar, which was a week-long performance "where people were invited to come into the space one at a time and sip champagne while they were asked to exchange a tale of loss for an oyster (or an orange if they’d rather)".

Kate Hawkins mostly does paintings, video and performance pieces. She has previously collaborated with Eloise Fornieles on a performance based installation, so we are sure they would be willing to either collaborate again or be exhibited together. One of her works that we found interesting is her series of spray paint on canvas paintings called Napkin Paintings.

Eloise Calandre is a photographer but she also works with videos and performances/installations. A recent work of hers is a collection of photographs, installations, drawings and videos which "explore the possible nature of an invisibility made manifest", we also fell for a video piece she made called Shortcut.

The venue selection came rather easily to us, half the group thought of the same gallery, The Red Gate Gallery on Coldharbour Lane, so we decided to go with it, especially since it seems like a space that will fit well with these artists.

In regard to the chosen venue (the Red Gate Gallery) i have just found out one of the 2nd yr painters is employed there. Apparently exhibitions are usually taken down on thursdays, so i intend to visit the gallery this week to take photo's of the interior space and gather any additional information that could be valuable to us while trying to draft a proposal.

Do we need a theme for our exhibition? We discussed the idea of "exchange" in previous sessions but is it something we feel we need or do we want the artists to come up with work that has no relating theme? do we want to showcase work they have already done or are we commissioning new pieces? Will this affect our budget either way?

Hey guys so in relation to our previous session looking at budgets I looked into the costs of our show and came across these sites. (below)
I haven't got quotes from these companies because (we are commissioning new work from these artists) we don't know exactly what it is we are insuring/moving! (Hmmm!?) Do we just get quotes for old pieces as a guideline?

Hi girls.

I want to suggest we exhibit work from Gayle Chong Kwan instead of Eloise Calandre. I think she will fit perfectly with Eloise F and Kate Hawkins, better then Eloise Calandre's work does. In her work she has used various media; photography, video, installation and performance, as well as work that engages with the audience. "Her work plays with notions of communication, participation and authorship through utopian ideas, food, culinary rituals, tourism, trade, memory and the senses."

Let me know what you think.
